Mayurbhanj: An undertrial prisoner was apprehended in Sarat village in Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday, six days after he had escaped from the sub-jail in the Balasore district of Odisha.

A sub-jailer was suspended due to the incident, sources claim.

Sudam, the prisoner, was housed in the sub-jail that was part of the Soro block's Mulisingh hamlet. He was going to court for rape.

On September 1, he was able to elude the security personnel, scale the wall separating the jail, and get away.

It should be mentioned that the sub-jail has recently been in the news for a number of abnormalities. According to reports, a prisoner committed suicide in the restroom, and in another instance, some prisoners were also physically assaulted.

The cops had taken cell phones from the jail's inmates after receiving complaints. In addition, jail staff has come under fire for reportedly providing convicts with subpar meals, according to complaints.
