The Orissa High Court has ordered a Crime Branch investigation into the death of international hockey player Birendra Lakra's friend Anand Toppo.
Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has ordered a Crime Branch investigation into the death of international hockey player Birendra Lakra's friend Anand Toppo.
The deceased's family members have accused Birendra of being involved in Anand's death at a house in Bhubaneswar's Infocity area.
Hearing a petition filed by Anand's father, the High Court directed that the investigation be led by a DIG rank officer, as the accused is a DSP rank officer.
The HC also ordered that the investigator submit the investigation report to the lower court.
The deceased's father had petitioned the High Court, alleging a lack of impartiality by police in the death investigation.
Birendra Lakra and his friend Manjeet Tete, according to Anand's family, were involved in his death. On February 28, last year, Anand was discovered hanging inside the house.
Anand's childhood friends Birendra and Manjeet should be mentioned.
The Twin City Commissionerate Police, on the other hand, had given Birendra a clean chit in the death case.
According to police, the available evidence and medical reports show that the cause of death was suicidal hanging, and there is no suspicion of foul play.
The injuries discovered on the deceased's neck could be ante-mortem and suicidal in nature. Prior to his death, the deceased had consumed alcohol and barbiturate. It had also stated that forcible administration of alcohol and drugs was not possible in this case.
