Angul: A train allegedly mowed down an adult tusker near Jerang Dehurisahi in the Jarpada forest range of Odisha's Angul district.

According to sources, the incident occurred on Thursday around 9:30 p.m. when the elephant was crossing the railway tracks. After being hit by the Sambalpur-Shalimar Mahima Gosain Express, the tusker died on the spot.

Officials from the railways and the forest department are on the scene investigating the accident.

According to sources, an elephant herd was recently spotted in the area.
