Jagatsinghpur: Several areas in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district were flooded on Sunday as a result of breaches in the Machagaon canal embankment in two places.

The breaches occurred in the district near Daleighai and Tarikund, submerging Hanumantabrahmapur village, nearby farmlands, and a portion of the Cuttack-Jagatsinghpur road.

While a 15-foot breach was discovered near Daleighai, sources say the one at Tarikund is about 20 feet long.

As a result, the Tarikund market area was inundated, and knee-deep water was flowing on the Cuttack-Jagatsinghpur road. Because of the breaches, vehicular traffic on the road was temporarily halted.

The breach was caused by an overflow of water in the Machagaon canal, according to Rajkishore Sahu, Assistant Executive Engineer of the Balia Irrigation Division. Because of a problem with the Taladanda canal, excess water from Cuttack was released into the Machagaon canal.

Biribati's water supply has been regulated, and breaches are being filled with sand packets. He stated that the situation is under control and that the breached embankments will be sealed soon.

It should be noted that the Taladanda and Machhagaon canals are used for irrigation in the Jagatsinghpur districts.
