On Sunday, a man allegedly burned his wife alive while under the influence of alcohol in Odisha's Dhenkanal district.

Dhenkanal: On Sunday, a man allegedly burned his wife alive while under the influence of alcohol in Odisha's Dhenkanal district.
According to reports, the man, identified as Niranjan Das of Gopapur village in the district's Kankadahada police station, is a heavy drinker. He used to regularly physically torture his wife Rangabati Das while under the influence of alcohol.
On that day, Niranjan arrived at his house drunk and began beating Rangabati in front of no one. Later, he doused her in kerosene and set her on fire.
When Niranjan's son Bikash Das learned of the incident, he went to see his mother, only to find her charred to death. He then went to the police station in Kankadahada and filed a complaint against his father.
"My father regularly came to the house inebriated and physically abused my mother even in my presence," Bikash told reporters. I managed to keep my mother safe whenever I was in the house. But today, while I was away, he (father) burned my mother to death."
Meanwhile, police have seized the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. They have opened an investigation and detained Niranjan for questioning.
