Ex-BMC Corporator, son critical in gunshot attack
Two family members of a BJD corporator were injured after being shot at during a road rage incident late Wednesday in Laxmisagar, Odisha's capital.
Bhubaneswar: Two family members of a BJD corporator were injured after being shot at during a road rage incident late Wednesday in Laxmisagar, Odisha's capital.
The victims have been identified as Sridhar Jena, the elder brother of ward-32 BJD Corporator Sikhar Jena, and his nephew Alok Jena. They were hit in the legs by bullets. The pair was initially taken to the Capital Hospital before being transferred to a private hospital in the city for further treatment.
The incident occurred just a few meters away from Laxmisagar police station when a group obstructed the corporator's elder nephew on his way home by parking their vehicle in front of him, resulting in a heated altercation and subsequent firing.
The corporator told the media that there were about 10-15 people. "We have a shop close to the flyover." The accused purposefully parked their vehicle in front of his vehicle as he drove home."
After receiving a call from Alok about the incident, Sridhar, his elder brother, and his younger nephew rushed to the scene. "They began abusing us. Following that, one of them pulled out a pistol and fired six shots into the air.When the police took it away from him, he pulled out another pistol and fired on my elder brother and nephew," he added.
According to the injured Sikhar, they fired about 12 rounds of ammunition.
Police have detained two people for questioning, and an investigation is ongoing.
