Ex-Nabarangpur Addl Sub-Collector's 5-day remand ends; 6 benami accounts unearthed
Following the release from remand of former Nabarangpur additional sub-collector Prasanta Rout, Odisha Vigilance sleuths discovered three more plots in Bhadrak and Bhubaneswar, as well as six Benami accounts into which the OAS office had deposited Rs 1.2 crore.

2 benami plots at Malipada, Bhubaneswar, and another at Bhadrak
According to the release, Rout admitted to opening six benami accounts in the names of different people and depositing Rs. 1.2 crore. A bank locker at UCO Bank in Bhadrak has also been located, according to the report.
Rout was arrested after serving his 5-day police remand.
Notably, the OAS officer was arrested on June 24 for allegedly possessing disproportionate assets totaling Rs.5,21,09,659, which amounted to 506% of his known sources of income. On June 23, over Rs 3 crore in unaccounted cash was seized from his residences in Bhubaneswar and Nabarangpur during simultaneous searches by Vigilance sleuths.
A multi-story building, five plots, over Rs 62 lakh in bank and insurance deposits (Rs 21 lakh in Benami account), and two four-wheelers were also discovered. The OAS officer spent Rs 87 lakh on his children's education.
The following day, the government forced him to retire.
