Bhubaneswar: In a corruption case, a special Vigilance court sentenced a former Secretary of Panchamahala Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) in Odisha's Sonepur district.

Jugal Kishore Mishra was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison and a Rs 5,000 fine by the Special Vigilance Court in Balangir.

In the event that the fee is not paid, he will be imprisoned for three months extra, according to a Vigilance release on Thursday.

Mishra was detained for allegedly asking and taking a bribe from a complainant in exchange for issuing tokens in his favor for selling paddy at Panchamahala PACS.

The Court further sentenced him to one year of severe imprisonment and a fine of Rs 3,000 for the offense under Section 7 of the PC Act, 1988.

Both sentences must run simultaneously.

Vigilance will petition the appropriate authorities to have Mishra's pension terminated, according to the announcement.
