Baripada: Five wildlife smugglers were apprehended and four elephant tusks were seized by forest department officials in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district's Jashipur area.

Following a tip, a team of forest officials raided Jamukeswar village in the Jashipur area and apprehended the smugglers. During the search, officials recovered and seized four elephant tusks from their possession, according to sources on Sunday.

The team included an ACF, ROs, and personnel from the Similipal south, Similipal north, and Rairangpur divisions, and was led by the Deputy Director of the Similipal south division.

Attempts are being made to determine whether the arrested suspects are poachers or traders. More information will be shared later by forest department officials.

So far, the identities of those arrested have not been revealed. More research is being conducted.
