Bhubaneswar: Police arrested four people on Sunday in connection with an alleged attack on students of the premier BJB Autonomous College in Odisha's capital the day before over a game of cricket.

Those arrested are from the Kendarpalli and Badagada districts. According to police sources, two of them have criminal histories, and two knives and a cricket stump were seized from them.

The incident resulted in the injuries of three students.

According to sources, 12 undergraduate (UG) students, all residents of the college's BR Ambedkar hostel, went to the playground around 9.30 a.m. to play cricket. They did, however, come across a group of non-students playing there.

Outsiders took another 30 minutes to leave the grounds, which sparked an argument between them, following which the non-students allegedly attacked the college students with sticks and sharp weapons. They also pursued them all the way to the hostel. One of the students was stabbed in the head, and two others were stabbed in the hands.

After being notified, Badagada police arrived on the scene and transported the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Notably, both students and members of the local community can use the playground.
Gulam Moinuddin Khan, principal of BJB Autonomous College, previously told the media that the school will no longer allow outsiders into the playground.
