On the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on Sunday, at least eight devotees were seriously injured after being attacked by a swarm of bees during a special ritual at a temple in Odisha's Maayurbhanj district.

Baripada: On the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on Sunday, at least eight devotees were seriously injured after being attacked by a swarm of bees during a special ritual at a temple in Odisha's Maayurbhanj district.

According to sources, a large number of devotees gathered when special rituals and havans were performed at Jagannath temple in Sirsa, Saraskana block of the district. On the auspicious Akshaya Tritiya festival, a troupe was performing Sankirtan.

When a swarm of bees entered the temple grounds and unleashed an attack, causing panic among the people, preparations for the Rath Yatra were also being made. Those present ran helter-skelter in an attempt to flee.

At least eight people were seriously injured in the bee attack and were rushed to a hospital in Sirsa. As his condition worsened, one of them was transferred to PRM Medical College and Hospital in Baripada.
