Heavy rain to lash Odisha, Orange alert issued
The India Meteorological Department warned on Sunday that thunderstorm activity in Odisha is likely to increase over the next two to three days, with lightning accompanied by rain, isolated hail, heavy rain, and gusty surface wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph.

Some areas in Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Kandhamal, Boudh, Ganjam, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, and Angul districts have been issued an orange alert because of the possibility of thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and gusty surface wind speeds of 40-50 kmph until 8.30 a.m. on Monday.
The IMD has also issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speeds of 40-50 kmph in Balasore, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Boudh, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada. Thunderstorms and lightning are also possible in rest areas.
During this time, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are also possible in many parts of South Odisha, North Coastal Odisha, and a few other parts of the state.
The orange warning will remain in effect for another 24 hours, with thunderstorms, hail, and gusty surface winds reaching 40-50 kmph, as well as heavy rainfall in one or two locations in Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, and Balasore. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speeds of 40-50 kmph are also possible in Jagatsinghpur, Khurdha, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Angul, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Balangir, Sonepur, and Boudh. The entire state is also expected to see light to moderate rain.
On April 25, yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph has been issued for one or two places in Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balangir, Sonepur, Nabarangpur and Nuapada. Many places in North Odisha, South Coastal Odisha, and a few places in South Odisha's interior districts can expect light to moderate rain or thunderstorms.
Though the yellow warning will be in effect for another two days, thunderstorm activity will be reduced.
