Bhubaneswar: A CRPF jawan from Odisha was killed during an encounter with Maoists in the forest under Tonto police limits of ​​West Singhbhum district in neighbouring Jharkhand on Friday.

Sushant Khuntia of Keonjhar district's Anandapur area has been identified as the deceased jawan. He had been a member of the CRPF since 2012.

According to reports, two CRPF jawans from the 60th battalion were injured in an encounter with the Central Committee of the CPI-Maoist outfit and the Misir Besra squad for a Rs 1 crore reward. They were flown to Ranchi by helicopter. Doctors at Medica declared Sushant dead after he was shot near the chest. Munna Lal, the other CRPF constable, is safe.

"Two days ago, a large Maoist camp was destroyed in an encounter." This encounter was primarily aimed at top Maoist Misir Besra, according to IG (Operations) AV Homkar.

According to sources, Khuntia married four months ago, and his wife is now working as an ANM in Keonjhar's Telkoi area. His elder brother, who was also assigned to the CRPF, was killed a few years ago, and another died from cancer. His father died the previous year. His mother is being treated at a hospital in Bhubaneswar for an illness.
