Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) filed a complaint with Odisha's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Saturday, alleging misuse of government employees and machinery by the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in its campaign for the May 10 Jharsuguda Assembly by-election.

A BJP delegation visited the CEO's office and filed a petition alleging that the ruling BJD is distributing money through female government employees in order to influence voters in the upcoming bypoll in Jharsuguda.

The BJP leaders claimed that BJD had used community resource persons (CRP) from Zillapalli gram panchayat in Kolabira block — Asmita Nayak, Binita Nayak, J Pandaki Mal, and Puja Patel — in election campaigning.

They also claim to be distributing money to voters in order to gain their support for the BJD candidate in the by-election.

The BJP leaders also claimed that Suruchi Padhi, an Anganwadi worker, is campaigning for BJD candidate Deepali Das on social media. They claimed she had solicited votes for the BJD nominee in violation of the Model Code of Conduct, and demanded strict action against the violators.

Meanwhile, the BJD filed a complaint with the CEO, alleging that BJP candidate Tankadhar Tripathy violated the model code of conduct by campaigning between 1 and 2 a.m. on May 5.

It should be noted that campaigning for the Jharsuguda bypoll will conclude on May 8, with voting taking place on May 10 and votes being counted on May 13.
