Bhubaneswar: On Wednesday morning, the cyclonic circulation over the central sections of the Bay of Bengal and the neighboring north Bay of Bengal strengthened into a low pressure region over the central parts of the North Bay of Bengal.

"It is likely to become more noticeable over the next 24 hours and move across the coasts of south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh, as well as south Chhattisgarh, over the next three days," the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

Odisha may continue to suffer scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely severe rainfall over the next 24 hours under its influence. Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Kandhamal, and Ganjam have all been issued a red alert.

Heavy to extremely heavy rain may also fall in Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Gajapati, Rayagad, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, and Sambalpur.

Heavy rain warnings have also been issued for Koraput, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, and Kendrapada districts.

The weather service has issued a flash flood warning, as well as warnings of waterlogging in low-lying areas, inundation of agricultural fields, and mudslides or landslides in vulnerable mountainous areas. The heavy rains could result in a major rise in river water levels. There is also the risk of minor damage to the kutcha road and residences, as well as waterlogging at the underpass road and occasional sight loss, leading to traffic congestion in urban areas.

Farmers have been urged to postpone the application of fertilizer/chemicals in agricultural fields and to keep livestock in a secure location.

The intensity of the rain is expected to lessen significantly after that.
