Sambalpur: A massive fire broke out at a warehouse in the Gunderpur area of Odisha's Sambalpur district on Monday, destroying a large quantity of PVC pipes.
According to sources, the fire broke out at a pipe godown in Gunderpur, Maneshwar tehsil of the district. The fire department was notified as soon as the fire and thick smoke billowing from the warehouse were discovered.
Firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving information and launched an operation to extinguish the blaze. The firefighters, despite their sophisticated equipment, had difficulty controlling the flames. Thick black smoke and a pungent odor emanating from the godown engulfed the antire area, causing locals to panic.
By the time the fire was extinguished, the warehouse's stock of PVC pipes and plastic materials had been completely destroyed. The extent of the damage has yet to be determined.
While an electric short circuit is suspected to have started the fire, the exact cause is unknown.
