Balangir: On Monday, a man was arrested in Odisha's Balangir district for allegedly murdering his wife and then setting fire to her body in order to destroy evidence. His older brother and uncle were also apprehended for assisting him in the crime.

Debaraj Sahu of Putulamahula village, under the jurisdiction of Khaprakhole police station, was named as the main accused, with his two accomplices being his elder brother Tikelal and uncle Gunanidhi.

According to sources, Debaraj married Chulabati of Chingiritala village six years ago. On June 16, the two got into an argument about some family issues, and Debaraj thrashed his wife mercilessly until she collapsed.

When Debaraj realized his wife had died, he put her body in a sack and carried it to a nearby forest, where they poured petrol on the sack and set it on fire.

After being unable to contact his daughter, the woman's father inquired of Debaraj about her whereabouts. Debaraj filed a missing persons report at Khaprakhole police station after failing to receive a satisfactory response.

During the investigation, the police learned about the murder and arrested the three suspects.
