Rayagada: On Thursday, a handwritten banner protesting the arrest of 21 people from Sungar Panchayat of Kashipur Block was discovered at Ramanakuplai Chhak under Muniguda police limits in Odisha's Rayaga district.

According to sources, the Maoists have accused police of arresting and torturing innocent people and leaders of mass movements. They have also accused SC/ST Welfare Minister Jagannath Sarka, BJD leaders Bhaskar Rao and Sudhir Kumar Das of being involved in the police brutality and have threatened them with dire consequences if those arrested are not immediately released.

According to sources, the arrests were made about ten days ago in response to opposition to mining activities in the region.

After being notified, the local police arrived and began an investigation.
