Bhubaneswar: On Thursday night, suspected Maoists allegedly killed a man on suspicion of being a police informant in Khalepara village, Raighar block, Odisha's Nabarangpur district.

Chandan Mallick has been identified as the deceased (42).

According to police, more than 25 members of the illegal organization arrived in the village around 9 p.m. and forcibly took Chandan to a nearby field. They then bound his hands and mercilessly thrashed him. They later strangled Chandan to death with a rope.

Posters were later discovered in which the ultras blamed the death on the Nabarangpur SP, Chhattisgarh Police, and the Intelligence Department. They stated that Chandan had previously been warned at a 'Jan Adalat' for informing police of their movements and presence. He was sentenced to death because he continued to assist the police, according to the report.
