Bhubaneswar: Aadhaar cards are not required for school admissions in Odisha, according to Aswathy S, Commissioner-cum-Secretary School and Mass Education Department, in a letter to all District Education Officers on Tuesday.

"The academic year for this year has already begun, and admission is continuing in some schools as needed." It was previously stated that student admission should be simple and painless. In this regard, it is brought to the undersigned's attention that in some schools, HMs require parents to submit Aadhaar cards in order for their children to be admitted to different classes. "It is clarified that children must be allowed to enroll in schools with or without an Aadhaar card," said the letter.

The Secretary emphasized that Aadhaar is not a requirement for admission and that students may be assisted in obtaining Aadhaar cards after admission by coordinating with various district offices.

"You are requested to communicate with and inform all HMs accordingly in order for students to be admitted smoothly." Any further deviation from this instruction will be taken seriously," he added.
