Athagarh: Six people were detained on Monday in connection with a loan fraud involving over one crore at the Cooperative Society of Gurudijhatia branch in Cuttack, Odisha.

A peon, secretary, and assistant secretary of the Gurudijhatia Cooperative Society, as well as a cashier, supervisor, and clerk of the Central Cooperative Bank's Athagarh branch, have been arrested.

Choudwar SDPO Satyabrata Lenka told the media that the farmers had filed a complaint with the Gurudijhatia police station alleging that some employees of the Gurudijhatia Cooperative Society and the Central Cooperative Bank in Athagarh had accepted loans in their names totaling over one crore rupees.

He stated that the inquiry showed a large-scale fraud and that a criminal conspiracy case has been filed against the six defendants, who will be presented to the court later today.

Farmers erected a roadblock in Athagarh town and tried mass immolation in front of the State Assembly, demanding an investigation into the loan fraud.
