Bhubaneswar: The Police Department has taken two big technological advances as part of the 5T strategy.

Odisha Police is always working to improve openness in investigation and related processes by utilising technology. Odisha Police has just initiated two such significant initiatives, according to a police official.

Odisha Police has digitised Special Report (SR) files, as a consequence of which reports and documents, including supervision notes, are now uploaded to the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) module, and SR case monitoring has increased significantly.

Odisha, to our knowledge, is the first state to digitise SR crime data and connect them with CCTNS, according to the official.

Murder, rape, dacoity, and offences under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act are classified as Special Report or SR cases.

These instances are being followed up on by the SP, Range DIG, Crime Branch, and Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC). The official went on to say that such a surveillance system had been created over a long period of time.

According to him, all states have a comparable structure in place to monitor serious cases known as Special Report crimes or grave crimes.

Similarly, the Odisha Police Department has begun the process of digitising Malkhana records. It started out as a test effort in a few districts. The approach was accepted by the Police Department for the entire State on August 11 of this year. The project is in its early stages. According to the official, this will improve the tracking of seized objects and their production in court throughout the trial.

DGP Abhay has urged on the State's top police officials to be aggressive and sincere in implementing the Mo Sarkar and 5T programmes in the Police Department shortly after entering office.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced three online services of the State Police Department in January of last year as part of the Government's 5T drive to decrease the need for citizens to attend police stations. Virtual police station, road accident case documents module, and medico-legal opinion system are the three projects.
