Balasore: On Monday, three days after a deadly triple train crash in Odisha's Balasore district, Railway Safety Commissioner Shailesh Kumar Pathak visited the accident site as part of an independent investigation to determine the cause.

Pathak visited the railway station signal room, control room, and interacted with the officials present shortly after arriving at the site in Bahanaga.

Pathak stated that an independent investigation is being conducted by the Commissioner of Railway Safety, South Eastern Circle, and that the results of the statutory investigation will be made public once the full report is obtained.

On the possible cause of the mishap, which claimed at least 275 lives and injured 1175 people, he stated that the reason will be revealed only after the entire investigation process is completed. Pathak stated that it is too early to speculate on the exact cause of the accident.

It should be noted that Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated on Sunday that the Railway Board has recommended a CBI investigation into the horrific train mishap.

Meanwhile, train service on the affected route has been restored. On Sunday night, a coal-laden goods train from Vizag port rolled along the restored tracks towards the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). Passenger trains were later permitted to operate on the tracks.

Around 9.30 a.m. on Monday, the Howrah-Puri Vande Bharat Express passed through Bahanaga Bazar Station on restored tracks. Officials said the Railway Minister was present at the accident site and waved to the drivers as Odisha's first semi-high speed train passed through, adding that trains are now passing through the accident site at a slower speed.
