Berhampur: On Tuesday night, irritated locals staged a road blockade by burning tyres over repeated and unscheduled power outages on the Berhampur-Gosaninuagaon main road.
Following load shedding around 11 p.m., protestors came out of their homes and resorted to road blockade, alleging frequent power outages in the area during the day and night. According to sources, they also detained two employees of Tata Power Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) and continued the protest until this morning.
Local police and TPSODL officials worked hard to appease the protesters, but their efforts were futile because they demanded a written assurance from the company. "This has been going on for about 15 days." Every day, they cut power during the day. But now they're doing it at night," an agitator pointed out.
According to the sources, the agitator later relented and called off the protest after receiving assurance from Tata Power.
