12 middlemen arrested from AIIMS Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: On Friday, 12 middlemen from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, were detained by the Commissionerate Police.

According to reports, the brokers were arrested red-handed while they were selling tickets for the OPD of the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar at prices as high as Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000, by Khandagiri Police who were disguised as patients or their family.

The accused allegedly stole money from patients and their companions while promising to provide them tokens or registration tickets necessary to receive medical care at the publicly funded hospital.

Notably, the Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department (H&FW) had asked all state-run medical colleges and hospitals to launch a crackdown on brokers or middlemen diverting patients to private clinics and hospitals from the Out Patient Departments (OPDs) of government hospitals across the State.
