2 Sisters Rescued After Being Cheated By Youth On Pretext Of Marriage

Jajpur: In a story of love and treachery via social media, police rescued two sisters on Saturday and launched a manhunt for a youth who allegedly enticed them with the promise of marriage in Odisha's Jajpur district's Sundureimuha area.

While the primary accused, Ranjit Sahu (23), is apparently on the run, the police have detained three others, including his mother and two brothers, for questioning.

According to reports, the women, aged 23 and 19, are from Khaprakhol in the Balangir area and have spent the previous two years working at a private enterprise in Tamil Nadu.

For the last three months, the two were allegedly chatting on social media with Ranjit of Abdalpur in Jajpur Sadar police limits.

After gaining their trust, Ranjit allegedly enticed the two women with a false promise of marriage and invited them to Jajpur. They traveled to Jajpur last month after discovering his offer to be highly lucrative. Ranjit, on the other hand, kept them in a rented house and shut the door.

After being confined to the house for nearly a month, the two sisters managed to escape and catch the attention of the villagers, who called the police.

A police squad arrived on the scene and rescued the woman, following which the accused's mother and two brothers were arrested. Efforts are being made to find the accused.
