Bhubaneswar: Following a delay in the 'Dwara Phita' ritual at Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha's Puri on Saturday, a large crowd gathered at the 12th century shrine. A large crowd of devotees gathered outside the shrine to see the sibling deities.
According to sources, long lines could be seen in front of the Singhadwara, the Lion's Gate, as devotees had to wait for three hours to enter the temple due to gate delays.
While devotees were seen standing for hours inside the barricades that had been put up since early in the morning, there was a heavy rush from the parking area to the barricades. Because of the massive rush, the elderly were in poor condition.
Visitors to the temple usually form a line outside the shrine in anticipation of the Dwara Phita ritual, which was postponed today. They were permitted to have darshan after Mangala Alati.
Due to the large crowd, the police made special arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents and to ensure the smooth movement of devotees for darshan of the deities.
According to Puri Superintendent of Police Kanwar Vishal Singh, four platoons of police officers were deployed to control the crowd. Senior police officers are keeping an eye on the situation.
