Balasore: On Saturday, a team from West Bengal police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) raided a village in Odisha's Balasore district's Kamarda area in connection with an explosion at an illegal firecracker factory in Egra, EastMidnapore district, which claimed ten lives.

The three-member CID team raided the home of a relative of the prime suspect, Bhanu Bag, in Mahabag village, which is under the jurisdiction of the Kamarda police station. According to sources, the team members questioned the prime accused's relatives and allegedly picked up a youth in this connection.

The CID arrested Bhanu, his son Prithvijit Bag, and nephew Biswajit Bag on Thursday after he died in a hospital in Cuttack on Friday.

Bhanu, who suffered severe burn injuries in the deadly explosion, was unable to be released from the hospital.

Although the initial police investigation suggested that the explosion was most likely caused by firecracker manufacturing raw material stored at the illegal factory, opposition parties claim that the impact of the explosion proves that crude bombs, not firecrackers, were being manufactured there.
