Mayurbhanj: On Independence Day, the parents of a nine-year-old girl who drowned in a pond in Bankashola village within the Kuliana police limit in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district set an example for everybody by donating her eyes.

Shriya Basuri, Tana Basuri's daughter, slipped and drowned in the pond on August 15, according to sources.

Basuri opted to give his daughter's eyes after she passed away on July 4th. They also desired to keep their daughter alive during this procedure. “Nothing can bring my daughter back, but her eyes will give someone vision and give us peace in knowing she is still alive,” he said.

After being notified, the LV Prasad Eye Hospital in Bhubaneswar dispatched an eye bank team to Baripada to examine Shriya's eyes. Before the postmortem, they collected both of her eyes.

Shriya's family received a certificate of appreciation, according to the sources.
