Khurda: On Wednesday, a team from the Khurda Forest Range recovered 4 kg of pangolin scales and arrested two people in the district.

On the basis of a tip, a team of Forest officers raided the Dhala Pathar area and collected four kilogrammes of fresh pangolin scales. There was a struggle between Forest officials and the accused during the raid.

The Forest Department has been keeping an eye on the suspected suspects who were attempting to smuggle a live pangolin for the past three days, according to sources. They recovered the pangolin's scales when it died on Tuesday.

Three teams were created and a plan was devised to apprehend the accused under the guidance of Khurda DFO. According to the plan, Khurda ACF Arabinda Mohanty and Khurda district wildlife warden Subhendu Mallick pretended to be clients and approached the accused to acquire pangolin scales.

While the accused were exhibiting the pangolin scales to the Forest officials and negotiating, the raid was carried out by another squad led by Khurda Ranger Asit Mishra.

The raiding squad apprehended the accused even as they attempted to flee. The accused will be taken to court after they have been apprehended.
