Gajapati: On Friday, three people were killed and seven others were critically injured when their auto-rickshaw overturned and plunged into a 20-foot-deep gorge at Keradanga Ghat in Gajapati district's R Udayagiri police limits.

Dali Kar, Luka Mandal, and Pratush Karji, a nine-year-old boy from Badapada, Kulesingh, and Jalanga villages, have been identified as the deceased. The injured are from the villages of K Baradanga, Jalanga, Badapada, and Nuagada.

The accident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a turn at Keradanga Ghat, according to sources. The auto-rickshaw was on its way to Nuagada.

After being notified, a fire department team rushed to the scene and launched a rescue operation. All of the injured were then taken to the Khajuripada Community Health Centre. (CHC). One has been transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, while three others have been transferred to the district headquarters hospital in Paralakhemundi.

In the meantime, police have recovered the bodies and sent them for autopsies.
