6 Fake Maoists Arrested For Planting Bombs In Traders’ House in Odisha

Rayagada: Six people were detained for reportedly impersonating Maoists and threatening to blow up a businessman's house in Sunger village in Odisha's Rayagada district.

According to authorities, the six obtained gelatin sticks from Kerala in order to scare and extort Rs 5 lakh from businessman Kumar Shankar Gopal (42).

To avert any untoward incident, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officers, Rayagada's bomb disposal team, the District Voluntary Force, and local police evacuated the area near Gopal's residence.

The bomb was defused, and the police recovered five gelatin sticks (200 grams apiece), ten detonators, and five meters of electric wire.

"The incident occurred on December 7, when miscreants concealed a time bomb in Gopal's toilet." "They wanted a ransom of Rs 5 lakh and threatened to kill him if he did not pay," Rayagada SP Vivekanand Sharma informed the reporters.

The cops confirmed that none of the defendants belong to the outlawed CPI (Maoist). Ashok, the mastermind, was working in Kerala and had recently returned to Rayagada. "Our preliminary investigation reveals that the gelatin sticks were obtained from Kerala because prime accused Ashok is familiar with the southern state," Sharma stated.
