Boat carrying 50 passengers gets stuck in Chilika lake

Puri: On Tuesday, another boat carrying approximately 50 passengers became stranded in Chilika lake near Satapada in Odisha's Puri district.

According to sources, the mechanised boat, which was carrying 30 bikes in addition to the passengers, left Satapada for Jahnikuda in the afternoon. The boat stopped moving after about 7 kilometers in the lake, causing panic among the passengers.

Local fishermen rushed to the scene in their boats after learning of the incident. They rescued all of the passengers from the stranded boat and transported them to Jahnikuda's Chilika River banks. The affected boat was later towed to the banks.

Though the exact cause of the incident is unknown, the boat is thought to have become stuck due to the lake's receding water level.

On Sunday, a floating bridge vessel carrying approximately 100 passengers and several vehicles became stranded in the lake near Satapada. The passengers, on the other hand, were rescued in special boats.
