Brown sugar worth Rs 1 cr seized in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: An STF team detained two narcotics dealers in Ghatipiri, Dhenkanal, and confiscated 1.9 kg brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore from them.
An STF squad in Dhenkanal apprehended Rakesh Kumar Sahoo of Godidihi and Santosh Kumar Sahoo of Gadasila based on intelligence.
"A complaint has been filed against them under the NDPS Act," an STF official said, adding that the two will be taken to the court of Special Judge-cum-District & Sessions Judge, Dhenkanal.
Since 2020, the STF has seized more than 44 kg of brown sugar/heroin and 86 quintals of ganja/marijuana as part of its narcotics crackdown.
In October of this year, a heroin dealer in the same district was caught with 10 grammes of brown sugar worth Rs 1 lakh. Five people were arrested in November for trafficking 27 gramme brown sugar worth Rs 2.5 lakh.
