Church in Bhadrak sealed after reports of religious conversion

Bhadrak: A complaint of a church's involvement in religious conversion prompted local officials in Bhadrak, Odisha, to close it and issue prohibitory orders.

According to sources, the Bajrang Dal filed a complaint with the district government stating that the church in Geltua village, which is under the jurisdiction of the Bhadrak Rural police station, was involved in converting indigenous people to Christianity.

The tribals were being seduced and converted to Christianity on a regular basis, according to Manas Mohanty, a Bajrang Dal worker. "As a result, we filed a written complaint with the district government to discontinue the practise," he told the Times of India.

The Bhadrak tehsildar and police investigated the complaint and discovered a breach of peace between the communities. On Tuesday, Manoj Patra, the sub-collector of Bhadrak, said, "We had got a complaint from Bajrang Dal alleging tribals being converted to Christianity in the church."

On the basis of the investigation report, the government sealed the church's gates on May 17 and issued prohibitory orders in the village under Section 144 of the CrPC to maintain law and order. Officials have stated that no more than three people can congregate near the church.
