Cyclone Jawad To Hit Odisha Coast tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: The cyclonic storm, which is expected to form in the Bay of Bengal in the next six hours, is expected to hit Puri district on December 4 evening or 5 morning before recurving north, north-east, and heading towards West Bengal and Bangladesh, according to Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena.

"The system may detour back to sea after impacting the coast. It's also possible that the cyclonic system will miss the coast if it alters its course. "Wind speed is expected to persist between 90 and 100 kilometres per hour," he said.

The system is expected to recurve northnortheastwards and proceed along the Odisha coast during the next 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), with a maximum sustained wind speed of 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph.

The cyclone's wind speed may gradually diminish after it reaches the Odisha shore, according to Jena.

The cyclonic storm is expected to make landfall near Konark, Puri district, according to the German weather agency ICON model. The JTWC track, on the other hand, indicated that the storm may hit Ganjam or Puri.

The storm was expected to travel near to the Odisha coast but make landfall in West Bengal and Bangladesh, according to the American GFS model.

The landfall will occur along the coast of Andhra Pradesh, according to the European model ECMWF.
