DGCA grant drone use permission to NISER

Bhubaneswar: The government has granted the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) in Bhubaneswar a conditional waiver from the rules governing unmanned aircraft systems, allowing it to deploy drones for aerial survey and photogrammetry of centrally protected monuments.

According to an official announcement, NISER will work with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on the project.

The NISER has cleared two venues for drone operations: Raja-Rani Temple in Bhubaneswar and Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar.

According to the statement, the exemption is valid for one year from the date of approval or until future orders, whichever comes first, and is subject to the terms and conditions of the SOP issued by the DGCA.
