Cuttack: A lady has been granted two death certificates, each with a different death date.

When the Orissa High Court heard a review petition, the problem came to light.

Manorama Nayak of Asurali in Bhadrak district has been given two distinct death certificates. She died on June 12, 2006, according to one of her death certificates. Her death date is given as June 12, 2015 in another document.

The issue has been referred to the Crime Branch by a single judge bench led by Justice Biswanath Rath. According to reports, the state's Health Department issued the certifications.

"This court believes that there is an attempt to alter Manorama Nayak's death date, and both parties depend on several death certificates stating different dates of death involving the same common person," the judge stated.

"In these circumstances, while rejecting to consider the review petition, the Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch, Cuttack, is directed to investigate the problem involved in this matter in two months," Justice Rath said in his ruling.
