High-Level ASI Team To Inspect Srimandir’s Natamandap For Maintenance

Puri: On Sunday, a high-level Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) team arrived at Jagannath Temple in Odisha's Puri for an investigation of the fractures in the 12th-century shrine's Nata Mandap.

Arun Malik, superintending archaeologist at ASI Bhubaneswar Circle, stated that Additional DG (Conservation) Janhvi Sharma and Arun Memon from IIT-Madras had arrived to inspect the exterior and inner sides of Nata Mandap. They were accompanied by amicus curiae N K Mohanty and Shree Jagannath Temple Administration representatives.

According to sources, the expert team will make recommendations for the preservation of Nata Mandap and Jagamohan and hold comprehensive conversations about the pillars' upkeep. It will also inspect the cracks on Garuda Stambha, which faces Singhadwar.

The ASI is in charge of the repairs, which are slated to be completed by March 31, 2023.

In an affidavit presented to the Orissa High Court in October, the amicus curie voiced dissatisfaction with the repair and restoration activities.

After a two-and-a-half-year hiatus, the HC has begun overseeing the ASI's rehabilitation and conservation work at the Jagannath Temple.
