In Odisha's Sambalpur, VIMSAR Director Offers Voluntary Retirement

Sambalpur: Dr Lalit Meher, director of the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla, has requested for voluntary retirement due to health reasons.

Despite the fact that Dr. Meher's superannuation term expires on February 28, 2023, he stated in a letter to the government that he wanted to leave his tenure now owing to physical issues. "Taking voluntary retirement would only be in the institution's best interests and would aid in the improvement of my health state," Dr Meher told TNIE.

Dr. Meher was appointed as the director of VIMSAR in June 2020 through an official procedure.

Following a student agitation in December 2018, the government placed then-director Dr. Aswini Pujhari on vacation and replaced her with Prakash Mohapatra as in-charge director. Dr Dhirendra Maharana was appointed after Mohapatra retired, but he did not take up the position. Dr. Meher was later appointed to the position following an interview in May 2020.

It should be remembered that the bulk of VIMSAR's movable possessions were seized on Saturday for auction on a court order to settle the dues of disengaged contractual employees totaling more than Rs 80 lakh.
