Jilted lover kills girl’s brother, hacks father in Jajpur

Jajpur: On Tuesday night, a jilted lover allegedly hacked his girlfriend's brother to death near Tarini Chhak within Kaliapani police limits in Odisha's Jajpur district.
Jitendra Mahapatra has been identified as the dead.
According to accounts, Santanu Samal was having an extramarital affair with Jitendra's sister and planned to marry her.
The woman's family, however, was opposed to the marriage. Her father, Santosh Mahapatra, allegedly stipulated that Santanu divorce his first wife and deposit Rs 10 lakh in his daughter's account.
According to accounts, Santanu had previously threatened to murder Santosh because of his illness.
Santanu hacked the father-son combo late Tuesday night as they were going home in an agitated condition. They were transported to Sukinda Community Health Centre (CHC), where physicians proclaimed Jitendra dead. Meanwhile, Santosh remains skeptical.
Following this, enraged residents set fire to the accused's house and truck and mounted a roadblock on Wednesday morning, demanding stern punishment against him.
Kaliapani police arrived to placate the villagers after receiving the information, but they were unable. Santanu has been arrested and questioned.
