Kandhamal: One person has been apprehended in this relation, and a Special Task Force (STF) squad has recovered a leopard skin. The man has been identified as Birenmitra Nayak, a resident of Brahmanipada village in the Kandhamal district of Odisha and under the Chakapada police jurisdiction.
Sources claim that the STF squad, assisted by Tikabali forest officials, carried out a raid near the village of Brahmanipada and captured Nayak there. Based on intelligence of an agreement to sell the leopard skin, the raid was carried out.
One leopard skin and other potentially harmful items were taken from him during the search. Nayak was unable to provide any reliable documentation to substantiate his claim of owning leopard skins.
He was given to the Phulbani Forest Division's Tikabali forest officials.
