Lines at Korei railway station now fit; some trains not to stop for 5 days

Jajpur: On Tuesday, normal train operations resumed at Korei railway station in Odisha's Jajpur district after a 15-hour rescue mission.

According to sources, trains with speed limitations are running on both up and down lines. On Tuesday morning, two cargo trains and a passenger train passed by the Korei station.

However, railway officials have stated that no trains would stop at the station until restoration after the disaster is done.

For the next five days, the following trains will not stop at Korei:

18038/18037 Jajpur Keonjhar Road-Bhadrak

08454/08453 Cuttack-Bhadrak-Cuttack Passenger Special

08438/08437 Cuttack-Bhadrak-Cuttack Passenger Special

08412/08411 Bhubaneswar-Balasore-Bhubaneswar Passenger Special.

According to the East Coast Railway (ECoR), this is due to the removal of grounded waggons from the platform.

Notably, ECoR General Manager Roop Narayan Sunkar and Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) M M Choudhury visited the site on Monday to conduct a preliminary examination before launching a full investigation.

It is worth noting that three women were killed when eight waggons of a goods train en way from Dongoaposi in Jharkhand to Chhatrapur in Odisha derailed and smashed into the foot overbridge at Korei, reaching up to its roof. Among the fatalities were Parbati (55) and her daughter Kandhei (26) who were waiting for a passenger train to Cuttack for the latter's MRI scan since she had developed an abdominal tumour. Biswajit, Kandhei's 2.5-month-old son, and her husband Balarama, who had gone to get tea and biscuits for them, escaped unharmed.

The derailment of the goods train also caused damage to the railway station building. Several trains were cancelled, partially cancelled, or diverted as a result of the event.
