Bhubaneswar: The Speaker of the Odisha Assembly, Bikram Keshari Arukha, led a group of 24 legislators to meet President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi to congratulate her on her election to the nation's highest constitutional position.

The lawmakers also congratulate Droupadi, a former member of the Odisha assembly, and gave her Mahaprasad, a portrait of Lord Jagannath, and other state-issued mementos.

The delegation also included senior Congress leader and Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management Pramila Mallik, Government Chief Whip Prashant Kumar Muduli, Kantabanji MLA for the Congress Santosh Singh Saluja, and Bhubaneswar Central MLA for the BJD Ananta Narayana Jena.

Narasingha Mishra, the leader of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP), has excused himself due to health issues. Jayanarayan Mishra, a prominent BJP figure and MLA for Sambalpur, was also unable to accompany the delegation due to COVID and medical issues.

On Tuesday, the assembly committee members arrived in Delhi.

Notably, shortly after the daughter of Odisha took office as the 15th President of India on July 25, the assembly unanimously voted a resolution congratulating her on assuming the highest position. A suggestion was also made that a group of lawmakers visit Rashtrapati Bhavan to meet with her.
