Orange warning issued for six districts in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange warning for six districts in Odisha on Tuesday, predicting thunderstorms and lightning with gusty surface winds of 50-60 kmph and heavy rains until 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, and Khurda are among the districts that are likely to be affected.

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds of 30-40 kmph are expected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri, and Ganjam, according to the MeT office.

Thunderstorms with lighting may occur in Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

During this time, the IMD predicts mild to moderate rain in various parts of North and South Odisha, as well as a few spots in South Interior Odisha.

Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, and Rayagada have been given a yellow thunderstorm warning for the next 24 hours.

Rainfall will persist throughout the state until May 29, according to the forecast.

The IMD also stated that conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance further over some parts of the southwest Arabian Sea, more parts of the southeast Arabian Sea, the Maldives and Comorin area, the south and eastcentral Bay of Bengal, and some parts of the northeast Bay of Bengal over the next 48 hours.

After three days, however, the day temperature will rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius in a few spots in Odisha.
