POCSO court judge found dead in Cuttack, suicide suspected

Cuttack: Subash Kumar Behari, a judge on the Special Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) court, was discovered dead on Friday in his official residence in CDA Sector-9 in Cuttack, Odisha.

The judge was expected to return to work this morning after being on leave since Wednesday, according to reports. He called and asked for a one-day extension of his leave. The 49-year-old judge was later discovered unconscious and taken to a private hospital, where a physician pronounced him dead.

"We don't know exactly what happened to him. We learned that he was ill around 30 minutes before to being admitted to the Aswini hospital, a senior attorney told the reporters.

Behari, who shared a home with his wife and two daughters, is thought to have killed himself.

Circumstantial evidence points to a hanging suicide. The rope has been found and will be examined after being recovered. The cause of death will be revealed after more inquiry, ACP Tapas Pradhan told a local TV outlet.

The ACP said that nobody was home at the time of the occurrence.
