Bhubaneswar: On Friday, President-elect Droupadi Murmu hosted a meeting with four Padma award winners from Odisha at her home in New Delhi.

Eminent Santhali writer Damayanti Besra, poet Haladhar Nag, and social worker Daitari Nayak were among the Padma recipients who visited Murmu. They offered Murmu their congratulations on her victory, which made history for Indian democracy.

Dharmendra Pradhan, the minister of state for education in the union, referred to the meeting's photos in a tweet as "Pride of Odisha all in one frame."

“Padma awardees and tribal icons from Odisha felicitated Smt. Droupadi Murmu today. Smt. Murmu’s win shows the vibrancy of our democracy. This is a matter of great joy and honour for Odisha, especially for those working at the grassroots,” said Pradhan in the tweet.

The 15th President of India is Murmu, a member of a tribal group in the Mayrubhaj district of Odisha. She won the NDA nomination by defeating Yashwant Sinha, the opposition candidate, in the contest, whose results were made public on Thursday.
