Bhubaneswar: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), another low pressure region is expected to emerge over the Bay of Bengal around July 28.

“A new Low Pressure Area is expected to form over the North Bay of Bengal and its environs on July 28th. The State would receive more rain as a result of this, according to officials at the Bhubaneswar Met Center.

Today, thunderstorms with lightning are expected in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, Khurda, Puri, Kandhamal, and Nayagarh, according to the Met Center.

On July 26, thunderstorms are expected in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Boudh districts.

On July 27, however, heavy rain will fall in parts of Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj, as well as in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Sambalpur the next day (July 28).

In addition, heavy rain is expected in Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Kendrapara Cuttack, Angul, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Deogarh, and Sonepur on July 29.

At the same time, thunderstorms with lightning are expected to continue in some parts of the state through July 30, according to the National Weather Service.

The State received 397.9 mm of rain during the monsoon season (from June 1 to July 25), which is 18% less than the usual rainfall. Rainfall deficits have been recorded in at least 12 districts.
