Similipal Elephant Poaching Witness Death Case: 3 Forest dept Employees Arrested
Baripada: Turam Purty, a protection assistant and the lone eyewitness in the suspected elephant poaching cover-up at the core area of the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, was arrested on Thursday by Jashipur police.
Former Jenabil ranger Siba Shankar Samal, forester Chandrabhanu Behera, and forest guard Binod Kumar Das have been identified as the arrested forest department employees.
According to sources, they were arrested after the Orissa High Court denied their anticipatory bail request.

A joint task force (JTF) led by chief conservator of forest (Wildlife) Manoj V Nair is investigating the elephant burning incident, in which three forest employees set fire to the carcass and threw the ash and remnants of the jumbo into a river to destroy evidence.
