State Sanctions 2.55 Cr For 17 Deceased Scribes

Bhubaneswar: The Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department has sanctioned ex-gratia of Rs 2.55 crore to the family members of 17 working journalists who died as a result of Covid-19, with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's permission.

A total of Rs 15 lakh has been set aside for each of the families of the State's 17 working journalists.

Four journalists from Bhubaneswar are among those who have been sanctioned ex-gratia. Manas Jaypuria of Zee Odisha, Basanta Das of Freelance, Bijayan Laxmi Mohanty of Ajikali, and Pritiman Mohapatra of Pritiman Mohapatra (Times of India).

Subhransu Sekhara Mishra (Sambad), Jateesh Chandra Khamari (Sambad), and Kailash Chandra Sahoo are three journalists from Balangir (Pragatibadi).

Gobind Behera (TV News 6 Web), Pradeep Kishore Sahu (Sambad), Kishore Chandra Dash (Samaj), Naresh Kumar Behera (Odisha Files), Ratnakar Moharana (Kalinga Jyoti), Nandini, Nilaya Ranjan Pattnaik (Block Correspondent), Karunakar Sahoo (Anupam Bharat) were all from Ganja.

In addition, the aid would be given to the relatives of Bhanuprakash Rath (Naxatra TV) from Kalahandi and Ashok Kumar Sahoo (Manthan) and Pravat Kumar Routray (Loka Sampark) from Jajpur.

This financial help will be distributed to the deceased journalists' relatives. The Journalist Welfare Fund has approved a sum of Rs 2.55 crore.

The I&PR Department has received a few of these cases, which will be distributed following proper verification, according to sources. Eligible applications will be accepted for ex-gratia compassionate aid after the requisite investigation at the district level.
